Dual GLP-1/GIP

How It Works

Two pathways working together.

Tirzepatide works like Semaglutide in that it mimics GLP-1, but it also acts on a second hormone receptor, GIP. Together, the two pathways tend to produce a stronger effect on appetite and blood sugar than either one alone. That’s why it’s often the next step for people who’ve plateaued on a single-pathway medication.

It's taken as a weekly injection, following the same gradual dosing approach as Semaglutide: we start conservative and increase your dose over time, balancing results against how your body responds.

Is This Right for Me?

Often the next step after Semaglutide.

01

You've plateaued on Semaglutide

A second signaling pathway often produces a meaningful additional response when progress has stalled.

02

You want a stronger response from the start

Trial data shows Tirzepatide producing greater average weight loss than single-pathway medications.

03

You want a medication with large trials behind it

Tirzepatide is the active ingredient in Mounjaro and Zepbound, and it has years of large clinical trials behind it.

Who this isn’t for

Please don’t start Tirzepatide if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to get pregnant, or if you or a close family member has had medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2 (multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2). In rodent studies, GLP-1 medications caused thyroid C-cell tumors, and no one knows yet whether that happens in people, so those histories rule it out. If you’ve had pancreatitis or gallbladder problems, or you take insulin or another diabetes medication, tell us at your consult so we can talk it through.

If you’re hoping to lose a few pounds fast before an event, a monthly program like this probably won’t feel like a good match. Whatever the reason, if it isn’t the right fit, we’ll tell you kindly and help you think through what might work instead.

Results vary from person to person and aren’t guaranteed. This page is general information. Your consult is where we look at your own health history.

Tirzepatide FAQs

Wondering about switching, side effects, or cost? Text us at (530) 201-2665.

Why is Tirzepatide considered stronger than Semaglutide?

It works on two appetite hormones, GLP-1 and GIP, instead of one. In trials, that led to more weight loss on average than Semaglutide. Your own response can still differ.

Who is a good candidate for Tirzepatide specifically?

People who've plateaued on Semaglutide, or who want a stronger response from the outset. We'll talk through whether that's the right starting point for you at your consult, based on your history and goals.

Are there people who shouldn't take it?

Yes. Skip it if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to get pregnant, or if you or a close family member has had medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2 (multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2). Nicole asks about all of this at your consult before you start.

Does it affect birth control?

Slowed digestion can reduce how well oral contraceptives are absorbed, particularly during dose increases. If you're relying on the pill, we'll talk through backup protection for those windows at your consult.

How do I rotate injection sites?

Between your abdomen, thigh, and upper arm, changing the spot each week to avoid irritation. We'll walk you through technique at your first visit.

What side effects come up most?

Nausea, diarrhea, constipation, and tiredness, sometimes a bit stronger right after a dose increase. We start low and adjust from there. Call us if you have severe belly pain that won’t let up, since pancreatitis and gallbladder problems are rare but serious.

Is this the same medication as Mounjaro or Zepbound?

No. Mounjaro and Zepbound are brand-name, FDA-approved products. Tirzepatide is their active ingredient, but what we provide is not the brand-name product. Nicole will walk you through exactly what you’d be getting and how it differs at your free consult.

Does Tirzepatide cause hair loss or fatigue?

Both can happen. Shedding usually comes from losing weight fast rather than from the drug, and tiredness shows up mostly in the early weeks. Both tend to settle, and we keep an eye on them at your monthly check-ins.

What's the starting dose?

2.5 mg weekly for the first four weeks, then stepping up gradually based on how you respond. We handle the schedule; you just take the next step.

How do I know how many units to draw?

We teach you the exact units for your dose at pickup, in person, until you’re comfortable, so you’re never converting milligrams on your own at home.
